Jack Kirby, Curt Swan, Wally Wood, John Byrne, Jim Steranko, etc on a Silver-Bronze Age Jam!

Another Jam piece, commissioned by Martin Greim in 1978 to 1982!  This one is a doozy, one of the few times (perhaps the only time) that Wally Wood inked Curt Swan on Superman, and this unique team-up is complemented by what some would call the two greatest penciler/inker duos in the history of comics: Kirby/Sinnott and Byrne/Austin.

Martin Greim Jam 1978-82, Curt Swan, Wally Wood, John Byrne, Jack Kirby, etc

  • Tom Sutton - Vampirella
  • Ernie Chan - Hulk
  • Ramona Fradon - Plastic Man
  • Kurt Schaffenberger - The Original Captain Marvel
  • Jack Kirby & Joe Sinnott - Captain America
  • Michael Golden & Joe Sinnott - Ant Man
  • Curt Swan & Wally Wood - Superman
  • Joe Staton & Dick Giordano - Wonder Woman
  • John Byrne & Terry Austin - Spider-Man
  • Gene Colan & Klaus Janson - Howard the Duck
  • ??? & Dave Simons - Doll Man
  • Jim Steranko & Joe Rubinstein - Nick Fury
  • Jim Aparo - Batman

How could you not be proud to own this fine piece?  Many of them are by classic Silver & Bronze age artists: Aparo on Batman, Swan on Superman (getting Wood to ink him was a real coup), Byrne/Austin on Spider-Man and Steranko on Fury--oh my!  It was also signed by Captain America co-creator Joe Simon!  Nuff Said.

Buscema, Adams, Kubert, Garcia-Lopez, Kane on a Silver-Bronze Age Jam!

I love finding comic art jams where a die-hard fan was able to get the most famous comic artists to draw characters together in one big illustration.  Last year I featured one with Wrightson, Ditko, Infantino and many more great artists.

80s comic art jam

This one features a number of equally great artists.  Here is a rundown:

  • Wendy Pini - Elfquest
  • Joe Kubert - Hawkman
  • Rudy Nebres - Doctor Strange
  • Frank Thorne - Red Sonja (modeled on Wendy Pini?)
  • José Luis García-López - Deadman
  • Neal Adams - Conan the Barbarian, note Roy Thomas' signature next to Adams
  • Gil Kane - John Carter, Warlord of Mars Gulliver Jones, Warrior of Mars!
  • Dave Cockrum - Sun Boy Human Torch (Golden Age)
  • Ross Andru & Bob Layton - Sub-Mariner
  • Dick Dillin & Dave Hunt - The Flash
  • John Buscema & Joe Sinnott - Silver Surfer
An impressive piece!  Martin Greim has to have been the original owner.  The fact that the owner got these inkers is also remarkable.  Who knew Bob Layton inking Ross Andru would be such a great combination?  Nuff Said!

Wrightson, Ditko, Romita, Miller, Beck, Infantino on a Golden-Silver-Bronze Age Jam!

C. C. Beck, Rich Buckler, Steve Ditko, Lee Elias, Carmine Infantino, Fred Kida, Frank Miller, Jim Mooney, Irv Novick, John Romita Sr., Joe Staton, Bernie Wrightson and other artists contributed to this fantastic jam illustration that I found on Heritage Comics.

C. C. Beck, Rich Buckler, Steve Ditko, Lee Elias, Carmine Infantino, Fred Kida, Frank Miller, Jim Mooney, Irv Novick, John Romita Sr., Joe Staton, Bernie Wrightson and Others Original Art (c. 1979-82)

Here is a quick but not complete rundown:

  • Black Cat - Jim Mooney
  • Martian Manhunter - Rich Buckler & Brett Breeding
  • Black Cat (Golden Age version) - Lee Elias
  • Justice Society (Wonder Woman, Hawkman, Flash, Green Lantern, Black Canary, Dr Midnight - Joe Staton, with an autograph by Gardner Fox
  • Adam Strange - Carmine Infantino
  • Swamp Thing - Berni Wrightson, Len Wein autograph
  • Daredevil - Frank Miller
  • Blue Beetle - Steve Ditko
  • Airboy - Fred Kida
  • Daredevil (Golden Age) - John Romita Sr
This piece must have been owned by Martin Greim, judging from the writing.  A fantastic piece, he was very luck to have all these superstars work on it.  Steve Ditko is a rare one indeed.  Nuff Said!
